There was a snow storm in our area and a car went off the road onto the railroad tracks in Montpelier, VT. We run a construction company and I wanted to send one of our guys out with a loader to get the truck off the tracks. I thought it was important to notify Amtrak of the situation so that if there was a train coming they could stop it to prevent from anyone getting hurt. I called the "1-800" number because there wasn't a local number provided. I waited on hold 10 minutes and once someone finally picked up she informed me there was "nothing she could do, she was in California" She then told me to call Amtrak Police and gave me the number. So I hung up with her and called the number she gave me. Once Office number 1534 picked up she was immediately rude, and didn't have a clue where Montpelier, VT was as she was again not in this State. After another 10 minutes, she finally said she would find a way to let the local station know. I mentioned that it was awful that it was this hard to let Amtrak know of a potentially very dangerous situation and in the middle of telling her, she hung up. I am very unimpressed with Amtrak. This could have turned into a very unsafe situation and they didn't seem to care at all...
